There are two different types of security that you need to be familiar
with to use iCal: Administation
and Editing Calendars
Administation
The administrator of iCal can customize calendars,
create new calendars, and assign passwords to calendars.
Editing Calendars
If a calendar is password protected, then people viewing the calendar
page will not be able to change events unless they login. After
they login, they can edit events. Note: Logging in does not
give them permission to customize the calendar or to perform any
other tasks that the iCal Administrator can do.
Changing the Admin Password
When you first start iCal, there is no password set for the iCal
Administrator, and none of the example calendars are password protected.
We recommend that you change the Administrator password immediately!
To change the Administrator password, first go to the
/admin page, and click the [Login] button. From the
iCal Administration page, click
the [Change Admin Password] button. Enter your new ID and password, then
click the [Change User ID/Password] button.
After changing this password, you will need to type it in whenever you
need to login.
Password Protecting a Calendar
To password protect a calendar, first login through the
/admin page, then click on the [Setup/Security] button
beside the calendar you want to password protect.
In the Security section, change the "who can edit this calendar" drop down
to the option: Edit with Password. Enter a User ID and Password
below this. Click the [Save] button at the bottom of the page to save
these changes. The User ID and Password will now be needed to edit the calendar.
Accessing Protected Calendars
If a user wants to edit a calendar, you must tell them the correct User ID and Password
for the calendar they want to edit. Tell them to go to the /admin page
and type them in.
When they have logged in, they will see a list of calendars they can
edit. They will need to click the [Edit Calendar] button beside the calendar
they want to edit.
